This 4-Day Mount Toubkal Summit Trek from Marrakech is designed for trekkers who want a measured, safer route to the highest peak in North Africa. It suits active walkers who want to experience the High Atlas Mountains while giving their bodies the proper time to adjust to the altitude. By extending the journey over four days instead of rushing, you significantly increase your comfort and chance of reaching the 4,167-metre summit successfully.
Your trek begins with private transport from your Marrakech hotel to the trailhead to meet your licensed High Atlas guide and support team. You will walk through walnut terraces and Berber hamlets up to the village of Aroumd at 1,900 metres for your first night in a traditional gite. The second day is dedicated entirely to acclimatisation, featuring a loop walk up to 3,000 metres above the Mizane valley before returning to sleep low.
On the third day, a five-to-six-hour trek leads you past the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch to the Toubkal refuge at 3,207 metres. After an early dinner, you will make a pre-dawn start on day four for the final push to the summit of Jbel Toubkal. Throughout the trek, a cook prepares hot Moroccan meals, mules carry your main luggage, and your guide can communicate in English, French, Spanish, Berber, or Arabic to ensure your comfort in a group of twelve or fewer.
This challenging trek requires good general fitness and experience of long day hikes, but no technical climbing skills are needed. The experience is available all year round, though climbing between December and March requires winter gear like crampons and ice axes, which are provided on trip. You only need to bring your own broken-in hiking boots, a sleeping bag, and personal weather-resistant clothing layers.
Day 1
Marrakech → Imlil → Aroumd
Transfer to the trailhead, meet your guide and muleteers, and walk up to the village of Aroumd (1,900 m) for your first night in a Berber gite.
Day 2
Acclimatisation day
A loop walk to around 3,000 m above the Mizane valley, returning to sleep low. This is the day that makes the summit realistic.
Day 3
Trek to the Toubkal refuge
5–6 hours past the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch to the refuge at 3,207 m. Early dinner and an early night.
Day 4
Summit and return
Pre-dawn start for the 4,167 m summit, then descend to Imlil for a late lunch and drive back to Marrakech.

We have our own mountain-equipment rental shop in Imlil, so trekking and mountain gear is available to rent close to the start of many High Atlas routes. Rental is arranged separately and is never automatically included in a tour price.
Mules carry equipment on our High Atlas routes. We treat them as working partners whose care and condition are part of running a mountain trip properly.
We cooperate with SPANA's animal-welfare work in the Imlil area, which supports the working animals of the High Atlas.
